What is the purpose of your life? When you can answer that question, you will truly understand that it is less about money and far more about things that you make you who you are.
Have you ever taken the time to sit down and reflect upon the purpose of life specifically your own life? So what is your purpose here on earth, right now. And just as importantly, what gifts do you bring to the table of life to ensure that you can achieve your purpose?
Knowing your purpose is an important self improvement technique and probably should be the first action that you take as you make your plans to get from where you currently are to where you want to go. In working with clients, I have found that this reflective exercise, is probably the most powerful one next to embracing a goal setting process.
So where does one begin to craft this all important definition and statement? Well, at the beginning of your earliest memories is the best place to start.
Think back to your childhood. Was there any recurring them such as sharing, helping, exploring, investigating, listening, etc.?
Then proceed forward from kindergarten to elementary to junior high to high school to post secondary to all of your various jobs and roles as an adult. Look for any connecting themes or words that link each of those years. For me, I found the word trail blazer was quite appropriate given what I had done.
Next look to your strengths, your gifts that allowed you to keep on the path of the purpose of life. What you may discover is that your gifts or strengths and also your values. Were you creative for example? Creativity is a gift or a strength and it is a value especially if your business demands thinking outside of the box.
Writing a purpose statement may be a struggle, but it is one that is needed if you truly want to realize all the law of success that you have envisioned for yourself. And when you take this action, you will discover that your purpose is far more about you and far less about dollar signs.
