Warning: This article is not meant to belittle or attack anyone whose dress size is below 14. Nor is it meant to disparage anyone from participating in any of the diet plans available today.
Okay ladies, it's time to say a few words on behalf of fat people! You can be fat and happy. Yes, it is possible to be large, healthy and enjoy everything life has to offer. Where is it written you have to be a size two in order to be more attractive and loving?
For years, we have been bombarded with magazines, commercials, and ads featuring women who promote diet plans, when we know full well they've never seen a fat day in their life! We have been chastised, insulted, ignored; set apart by a society which dictates that thin is in and fat is out. There have been movies; news people pretending to be fat to determine how they are treated by the public; songs; rhymes; and a variety of jokes, although not meant to hurt, have indeed thrust the knife in our proverbial backs. And then Emme came! Bless her soul. Not only is she beautiful and intelligent, but fully engaged in promoting large women in an articulate and loving manner.
Society puts so much emphasis on labels, that as a result, fat people fall victim to discrimination in the work place; the media; and just about every area in society. Why? Fat equals dirty, unkempt, and over-indulgent. This is so far from the truth; it's ludicrous. Yes, obesity is a pandemic, and yes it causes health risks; but to categorize all fat people as a human blight on society is wrong. Quite frankly, for fat people; the joke is not on them but on the rest of society. Fat people are content; productive and extraordinary human beings. Did anyone ever consider this continuous barrage of bad behavior towards fat people may be more harmful than helpful? Of course not! We place so much emphasis on everyone being equal in this country; yet behind the scenes the scurrilous insults continue; and the hypocrisy goes on.
If you are overweight, either through genetic inheritance or otherwise, and are content and happy in your life; more power to you! Happiness isn't just for thin people. Without it, one can become listless, depressed and invite serious health concerns. Isn't it more important to be happy within your own skin; to be true to yourself; to love and be loved because of your inner beauty and intelligence? Perhaps it's nave to think so. How sad it is, then, for those of you who retreat from overweight individuals, because they aren't as perfect as you!
